Analysis of Thread Damage Problem of Numerical Control Lathe

A CNC vertical lathe is also called a vertical CNC lathe. Its main shaft is perpendicular to the horizontal plane. It is a large-diameter circular table used to clamp the workpiece. This machine tool is mainly used to process large and complex parts with large radial dimensions and relatively small axial dimensions. When machining threads on a CNC vertical lathe, the following problems are often encountered:


1. The thread cutter is damaged during thread turning.


2. I want to change a thread processing tool to machine threads at high speed.


3. After turning the thread, remove it and measure again, the depth is not enough.


These problems often make manufacturers using small CNC lathes helpless, because after changing the tool or re-clamping the workpiece, the spiral tool is difficult to align with the original spiral groove, the starting position is not accurate, and the tooth profile is always messy. To solve these problems, we must first understand the principle of turning threads on a CNC vertical lathe. In order to complete the thread cutting, the workpiece should be turned once, and the tool should be fed with a lead. For this reason, a spindle encoder is installed on the lathe, and its synchronous pulse is used as the cutting control signal of the tool feed point and the tool return point, so that there is a corresponding relationship between the pulse number of the feed servo motor and the spindle speed. However, there is no direct mechanical connection between the rotation of the spindle and the feed movement. Therefore, it is not easy to cut the tip of the tool along the original spiral groove when installing a knife or a workpiece.


At present, when companies use CNC vertical lathes to turn threads, most of them use machine tools. The coarse knife and the thin knife use the same speed. If the knife is broken in the middle, the knife bar should not be removed, and the blade should be replaced directly to prevent tooth disorder. However, if the rough turning tool and the fine turning tool are turned separately or the parts are re-clamped, the problem of tooth disorder will be caused.


Solution: If the tool is damaged during thread turning or the finishing tool needs to be replaced to complete thread turning. After installing the new knife, you only need to reset the knife. When calibrating the tool, it is easier to calibrate the tool in the X direction, but the key is to calibrate the tool in the Z direction. Many people move the tip of the tool to the end face of the workpiece by feeling. In this way, the tool setting error is relatively large, rough turning is OK, but fine turning is not. For this, we can use existing angular templates or templates made by ourselves.
